Despite organized worldwide events to raise awareness, destigmatize and normalize conversations around teen mental health issues, such as World Teen Mental Wellness Day recognized March 2, according to “Stigma Health” (August 2022) stigma around mental illness continues to be is a significant barrier to a young person’s access to mental health services.

The work around stigma reduction and change to attitudes around mental health has been heavily focused on educating and encouraging our kids to openly make mental wellness everyone’s concern. School-based mental health services, mental wellness curriculum and “safe” spaces are common in our middle and high schools.
